How clean is your archive?

We certainly found out the answer to this question when we rolled up our sleeves, picked up our dusters, strapped on the super-vac and made our way around the aisles of the store-room, sucking up dust and dirt from every nook and cranny.

By utilising our different heights (me – 5 feet 1 inches, Nic – 5 feet 11 inches) we made a fantastic dust-buster team! Nic cleaned the uppermost shelves and all along the air conditioning unit which snakes its way underneath the entire length of the ceiling. And little ol’ me concentrated on dusting the middle to lower shelves and vacuuming the floor.

I must admit, our team spirit waned ever so slightly when we had to decide who would change the insect detector traps which are placed at strategic points throughout the store. I decided to be big and brave and accept the challenge and then nearly passed out when I discovered what I had to deal with!

Cleaning the archive store-room is not a job that happens once a year, like spring-cleaning! But one that is part of our weekly rota – a bit like housework. We made an extra special effort this time as we are expecting important visitors next week. We’ll let you know soon whether they were impressed with our efforts!
